The Australian teenager is optimistic that his move to Europe will increase his profile and give him a fighting chance to get to the World Cup finals. The soccer authorities might not take kindly to this kind of blatant manipulation of the system but it seems that the young man is going places in the world of soccer and that he has a bright future waiting for him even if he does not make it to the World Cup. Being young it is conceivable that he will get another chance to prove himself on the international stage.
It is far better to wait for the right moment than to push things and then find that it all comes back to haunt him in the future. I believe that he has a good chance to go to South Africa even if none of the guaranteed players gets an injury. He does seem to have the talent and drive that should make him a formidable World Cup opponent for any national side. Whether he will get the chances to provide his worth is an entirely different matter that is in the hands of the gods.
At just eighteen the youngster has an impressive resume that would not go amiss in the records of a grown up player. He has starred for the Brisbane Roar. He was excellent in the Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia. It might seem a rather strange strategy to campaign for a place in the national team by getting onto a plane and moving abroad. However the logic of his decision is not entirely obscure. With a place in some of the great European leagues it will be clear to all that this is a person who is going to make it on the international stage.
When it comes to the selection of the World Cup team, the manager will want players with an international presence. Given the abundance of talent that has already been displayed, the international presence will be the final bit in the puzzle and should hopefully put him straight onto a plane.
